OPELIKA — The Opelika Police Department (OPD) is excited to host a free community basketball social — the annual Together Opelika Game On event — on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at Covington Recreation Center.
This engaging initiative creates a fun atmosphere where boys and girls ages 5 to 18 get the chance to play sports alongside police officers, athletes and their peers.
“We have enjoyed engaging with the community at our Game On Flag Football and Soccer events over the past 3 years,” said Opelika Police Chief Shane Healey. “These events help to build stronger, lasting relationships with the youth in our community in a relaxed and positive atmosphere. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day of basketball this year.”
Player registration is now open, and more information can be found online at www.opelika-al.gov/868/Game-On. Registration is free and includes a t-shirt sponsored by Christie Hill State Farm and lunch sponsored by Workout Anytime. Pre-registration is encouraged but not required, and any experience level is welcome.
