“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.” That is a line from a familiar song. We must first be a person of peace in our souls, before we can truly exhibit peace in the material world. In the past few years, our world and country have grown less peaceful and our children more frightened. They watch TV and can see what hate does to innocent people; even to little children.
Adults must begin exhibiting love and peace to our little children and grandchildren at home, as well as to those innocent ones of the world; so they do not grow up to be afraid, or think that aggressive behavior toward others is something you do when you grow up.
It is time to set an example by being an example. Adults must learn that a person can disagree without being disagreeable; and without drawing a gun. We need to teach that discussion is a privilege as we share our thoughts with one another. Children might throw themselves down on the floor and have a temper tantrum; adults should leave the room and count to ten.
Who or what is going to control people who were never taught
self-control at home? People who were ignored as children by parents who forget they were in the backseat of a hot car? People whose parents thought it was more important to talk on their cell phone than to talk to the little souls placed in their keeping?
“Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight.” May all adults join in one voice: “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”
And may our legacy continue on in the lives of children who were shown the way by our example.
