After 41 years, Opelika dentist Dr. Robert Huskey is retiring.
An Opelika native and 1968 OHS graduate, Huskey said he has enjoyed the opportunity to work and live in his hometown, as well as cultivate lasting friendships with his patients.
“There’s been people that come in for years and years, and you get to know them, and they become your friends. I’ll miss being able to come in and say ‘hey, how are you doing? How’s things going in your life?’ … and just getting to talk to them,” Huskey said.
Huskey’s practice will continue under new leadership, as the Columbus-based dentist Dr. Abigail Northcutt Adams will assume operation of the business Friday.
Adams, an Auburn native, said she plans to update and modernize the practice, and continue the well-reputed dental tradition Huskey leaves behind.
“It’s really exciting to have this opportunity, and he’s (Dr. Huskey) been willing to share whatever he knows, stuff that you only learn from over 40 years of doing it. I’ve been working in dentistry for a few years, but I haven’t owned a practice, and his help has been invaluable,” Adams said.
Adams said her practice’s business hours will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, but she is looking at the possibility of staying open longer one day a week to accommodate her patient’s needs.
The office is located at 1610 Second Ave. For more information, call (334) 745-6295.
