AUBURN, Ala. – Crooked Oaks at Auburn University is addressing some recent confusion surrounding the sale of a nearby property in east Alabama. The university hopes to clarify that Crooked Oaks, which was the homestead of Auburn’s beloved football coach, Pat Dye, remains under university management.
Crooked Oaks was gifted to Auburn University’s College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment (CFWE) in spring 2023 because of its alignment with the CFWE’s mission and programs. Since its acquisition, the college has continued its operations as a wedding and special events venue, while expanding its use for student instruction and community outreach.
Auburn Oaks, a 600-acre property also formerly owned by Dye, was purchased at the beginning of 2025 by the Forest Workforce Training Institute. The recent announcement has caused some public confusion regarding the status of Crooked Oaks, which was not included in the recent sale of Auburn Oaks.
Located near Auburn in Notasulga, Alabama, the 415-acre Crooked Oaks farm property includes Dye’s main house and adjacent cottage, a six-bedroom, open-concept lodge with full-service kitchen, 10,000-square foot lighted pavilion, formal ceremonial garden and lawn, gazebo, guest cabins, nursery and more.
Continuing Dye’s tradition of southern hospitality, the Crooked Oaks farm can accommodate lodging for up to 28 adults for bridal parties, reunions and other occasions and wedding and special event spaces for up to 400 guests.
