Photo by Robert Noles  Last Friday, Lee County peace officers and others gathered to honor fallen peace officers from our county and the nation. The above monument is in front of the Opelika Police Department. Similar monuments are at the Auburn Police Department and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office. Five Lee County officers have given their lives, three from Opelika: Town Marshall Henry Hart (1884), Lt. Moitt Brenton Truitt (1970) and Sgt. Roger Motley (1990), and two from the LCSO: Sheriff W.S. “Buck” Jones (1932) and Deputy James W. Anderson (2009).
