This year’s Relay for Life of Lee County event will be held on April 17 at Courthouse Square in downtown Opelika to benefit the research of the American Cancer Society.
The event will last from 6 to 10 p.m. The night will be full of fun, food and games to celebrate survivors and remember those who have lost their battle with cancer.
This year’s theme will be “Carnival for a Cure.” Event organizer Kalyn Frederick said that campsites, or tents, will be set up by each team participating in the relay. The hope is that these campsites will be set up with games under them for event attendees to participate in.
“The whole purpose is to encourage people to get involved, and a lot of people don’t know how to get involved or what getting involved looks like,” Frederick said. “It can be simply getting involved on the day of as a volunteer to be on a committee, to volunteer year-round or to be a sponsor.”
