Because of crowd-gathering concerns and guidelines currently in place for the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Opelika’s National Day of Prayer Service on May 7 starting at noon will be broadcasted on Hallelujah 1520 AM.
Traditionally, Opelika’s service is held on Courthouse Square in downtown Opelika or the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Opelika in instances of rain or other inclement weather. iHeart Media and longtime local radio host Richard LaGrand will serve as hosts for this year’s service, which features nondenominational prayer and worship.
The theme of this year’s National Day of Prayer is “Pray God’s Glory Across the Earth,” which is derived from Habakkuk 2:14 that reads: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” Information provided on the National Day of Prayer’s website shows that the first event was held in 1952 and signed into law by then-U.S. President Harry Truman.
In year’s past, Opelika’s service has drawn upwards of 200 people.
