For the Opelika Observer

Abbey Crank, one of five summer interns working at the Opelika Observer, is a rising senior majoring in journalism with a psychology minor at Auburn University. She is set to graduate in May 2022. After graduation, she said she would love to be a photojournalist or a writer for a newspaper or magazine in Boston.

“When I tell you I’ve already started job hunting at The Boston Globe, I mean it,” Crank said.

Crank is from Huntsville and chose Auburn based on family ties.

“My family has always been huge Auburn fans, and I just knew I was going to come here since I was little,” Crank said. “Not much thought went into it. Literally, I only applied to two schools.”

In her free time, Crank works on her personal blog, http://www.sincerelyabbeyc.com, where she writes about ableism and breaking the stigma around disabilities. She also spends a lot of time at her favorite coffee shop, Ristretto Lounge.

“That place is basically my second home,” she said. “So, you could find me there doing work and sipping on an iced caramel latte almost every weekend.”

Crank’s favorite memory at Auburn has been working. She loves taking pictures and capturing memories. Crank used to be the photography manager for The Rec, so she was able to start her passion there.

During her summer internship, Crank said she hopes to strengthen her portfolio and expand her writing skills. She has had a passion for taking pictures since she was 15 so if there is any chance to take pictures, Crank is there.
