The Opelika Chiefs have been invited to join the Amateur to Professional Development Football League, team owner Randy Price announced this week.
Based in South Carolina, the APDFL is one of the largest semiprofessional football leagues in the South. It is comprised of 32 teams in two regions, covering seven states.
The Opelika Chiefs were undefeated in 2015, their inaugural season, with an 8-0 record.
“The APDFL is committed to promoting teams that focus on achieving success through hard work while representing their community in a professional manner. We are excited about the opportunity to be a part of an organization that embraces the same philosophy of ethical professionalism as the Opelika Chiefs,” Price said.
The Chiefs’ head coach Hunter Price said the coaching staff is looking forward to the 2016 season as they join the APDFL. “This is a prestigious league that brings a new level of excitement to the game,” he said.
Tryouts for the 2016 season will be held in December, and the season opener will be in March.
