Wesley “Buster” Self July 1, 1951 –

Wesley “Buster” Self, Jr., 65, of Opelika, Alabama, passed away April 30.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Martha Self; brothers, David and Jeff; and sister, Carol. Buster is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nancy Darden Self; beloved daughters, Lisa Self Modling, and Karen “KK” Self Burton and her husband Jake; loving, spoiled grandsons, Wesley and Patrick Modling, Charlie and Joey Burton; sister, Pam Duncan (Joe); and an abundance of relatives and friends. Mr. Self served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Intrepid. After leaving the Navy, he worked at U.S. Steel, retiring after 38 years of service. Buster was the sweetest, gentlest, most hard-working man with a kind soul, and a perfect example of how a man should be. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Sportsplex Adult Activity Center in Opelika with Reverend Geoffrey Evans officiating. Visitation will be held preceding the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Sportsplex. “May he rest in peace and rise in glory!”
