On Jan. 20, State NAACP Rep. Bobby L. Mays from Elmore County presided over a meeting to determine interim officers in the effort to reactivate the Lee County Branch of the NAACP. The election results are as follows:
• President – Billy U. Allen 678-458-9688
• Secretary – Dr. Herbert Denmark
• Treasurer – John A. Harris 334-734-3302
Reactivation meetings fall on the third Monday of each month. The next meeting will be held on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church which is located at 201 S. 4th St. in Opelika.
Current NAACP members and interested citizens are encouraged to attend and applications will be available for those who wish to (re)join.
The vision of the NAACP is to ensure a society where all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.
