Local entrepreneur Russell Sanders has plans to change how Auburn goes about home improvement.

Sanders has announced the opening of a local Koala Insulation, serving Auburn and surrounding communities, including Opelika and Phenix City.

“I’ve been in more large corporate business, sales and marketing, for I don’t know, the last 30 years,” Sanders said. “Recently my job during the COVID period, my job was eliminated, so I started looking around for other opportunities to more control my own destiny.”

An Auburn University graduate, Sanders has worked for Sony, Verbatim, SanDisk and Western Digital, in roles ranging from sales representative to vice president. Searching for an opportunity to control his professional future, and longing to return to the Southeast after living in California, Sanders decided Koala was the perfect venture for him.

“What I liked about Koala was a few things: one, the founder, Scott Mark, this is his second concept that he has brought to market, and he’s very successful at what he does,” Sanders said. “He understands how to build a market, how to build a team, how to support franchisees with marketing and training and financial support. I started looking into the concept and the market — and the market is huge. It’s not that there isn’t competition, but there is always room to come into a market and provide a real quality service, take care of your customers, deliver white-glove service and really give them outstanding value for what they are paying for.”

Koala Insulation has differentiated its business model with a system that delivers efficiency and comfort to its clients. The brand’s commitment to white-glove service is executed through promptness, trusted expertise and cleanliness. Koala Insulation’s distinctions have driven its growth in the region’s franchisees.

“[White-glove service] is the ability to come in and sit with a customer, show them their situation in layman’s terms and then how we can correct and/or prevent something from happening in the future and make their home environment much more comfortable, energy-efficient and cost-effective,” Sanders said.

Set to open in the spring, Koala Insulation of Auburn will provide property owners with the full-range of insulation options including spray foam, blown-in and blanket (batt) insulation. The new location is the first Koala Insulation location set to open in Alabama.

“Koala Insulation prides itself on how we educate clients so they can confidently make decisions on an otherwise opaque home-improvement process,” Sanders said. “I am excited to bring this kind of expertise to members of Auburn and the surrounding communities.”

Operating without a brick-and-mortar location, the mobile concept of Koala Insulation requires no leases, and the brand is equipped with a thorough franchise support structure, complete with training, operations, marketing, lead generation and technology systems for its franchisees.

“The start-up process takes a while, but I’m very anxious to get it going,” Sanders said. “I consider the Auburn area kind of home, and I think there is just a lot of potential here, and I think it’s a great community that I want to be part of.”
