The basketball courts at Opelika’s Covington Recreation Center were sanded, re-polished and re-waxed last week. Supervisor Patrice Lipscomb said the courts were in dire need of restoration. “We didn’t realize the original color was as light as it is, simply because they told us that the color (resulted from) years and years of re-coating it with wax. It’s either the first or second time since the building was built in the 1960s that it has sanded down to the wood like that,” Lipscomb said.
The courts will reopen March 26. Check the center’s Facebook page for updates.
