Cary Lamar Senn, Jr. was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Mary Claire and C.L. “Shot” Senn, Sr. on Aug. 29, 1939 and passed away on Oct. 23, 2021. He was 82 years old.

Cary graduated from Auburn High Class of 1957. He furthered his education at Baylor Prep School in Tennessee where he played football and soccer. Cary had a football scholarship to Auburn University four  years and graduated Class of 1962. He taught school and coached football and basketball in Pensacola, Florida. for five years. The team he coached there won the state championship. After moving back to Opelika he worked for Uniroyal Goodrich until retiring in 2002. While working at Uniroyal he spent his afternoons and evenings coaching football for Scott Preparatory. He was one of the coaches when Scott Prep won the state championship in 1977. He also helped coach football at Lee Academy and Beauregard High School.

Cary initiated and organized the Providence Baptist Church softball team where he enjoyed playing weekly games with all three of his sons. In 1988, the softball team won the state championship.

Cary was on the Lee County School Board of Education for 20 years.

Cary is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Johnson Senn of Opelika, children, Kenneth (Melanie) Senn, Tim (Tammy) Senn, and Jeff (Rachel) Senn; grandchildren, Maggie (Thomas) Ingram, Kenslei (Drake) Sasser, Abbey (Will) Abner, Casey, Heath (Taylor Statum- fiance), Cullen, Jeffrey, Kate, Aliyah Broach, and Alexa Broach; great grandchildren, Claire and Cade Ingram, Gentry Senn, and Deuce Sasser; siblings, Jane Senn Elliott (Ewell Hank); niece: Laura Lee (Zack) Bumpus; nephew, Scott (Donna) Elliott; great-niece, and great-nephew: John and Christina Bumpus.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home from 12:30 until 2 p.m.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Chapel at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home Thursday, Oct. 28 with Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating. Interment will follow at Garden Hills Cemetery.
