High school volleyball teams are wrapping up their seasons and few local squads are continuing their seasons in postseason play.
The varsity Beulah Bobcat varsity volleyball team secured a super regional berth by winning the 3A Area 07 Area tournament, which the Bobcats hosted. As the No. 1 seed, Beulah had a bye in the first round before facing No. 2 Dadeville for the area championship. In the process, Katie Morris (MVP), Brandy Phillips and Amya Dunn were named to the All-Area Team.
The Bobcats comfortably defeated the Tigers, 3-1, to be crowned champs. Beulah began its super regional journey with a matchup against Opp High School on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time.
The varsity Opelika Bulldog volleyball team secured a super regional berth by winning the 6A Area 04 Area tournament, which the Bulldogs hosted in Opelika. As the No. 1 seed, Opelika swept No. 4 Valley, 3-0, to advance to the area championship game. The Bulldogs advanced to face No. 3 Eufaula, and dispelled the Tigers, 3-1, to win the area.
“The girls have worked really hard to come together and turn this season around,” said Opelika head coach Robin Roberts. “Our ultimate goal was to repeat as area champs for the fourth year in a row. Once we accomplished that, our new goal was to take back the area tournament championship. I’m proud of how hard the girls worked to achieve these goals.”
The Bulldogs began super regional action with a matchup against Hillcrest in Montgomery on Wednesday, but results were not available at press time.
The varsity Auburn High Tiger volleyball team played host to their competition in the 7A Region 04 Area tournament last week and watched the first round of action between Central and Smiths Station play out having earned a bye. Following a Central defeat of Smiths, Auburn dispelled the Red Devils three sets to none to earn the area championship. The Tigers began their super regional play on Wednesday against Prattville, but results were not available come press time.
