Opelika native and Nashville-based stand-up comedian Dusty Slay is coming home April 7 for a free show at O Town Ice Cream to promote his new album, “Son of a Ditch.”
According to Slay, this sophomore release features his experiences as a child of divorced parents, spending time growing up in both a trailer park and on a farm, with slight exaggerations sprinkled throughout.
The 2000 Opelika High School graduate said he has always enjoyed making people laugh, and in 2003, he moved to Charleston, S.C. to pursue comedy, where he quickly gained notoriety and established a loyal following.
Slay moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 2014, where he produced his first album “Makin’ that Fudge.”
He has received numerous awards and recognitions during his comedy career, and was a contestant on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, as well as making appearances on television shows like Laughs on Fox and TMZ.
Slay kicked off the ‘Son of a Ditch’ tour with a show last Thursday in Cumberland, MD., alongside friends and fellow stand-up comics Evan Berke and Jordan Jensen.
Slay said he chose Opelika as a stop on this tour to reconnect with family and friends, as well as reminisce on his time growing up in the city.
“I love Opelika, and the last couple of shows I’ve done, my family came out, which is great. But I’m really trying to reach some people that I went to high school with, I just wanna hang out and tell some jokes,” Slay said.
The 8 p.m. show is free, but Slay said that they are asking for donations to cover their costs and travel expenses. For more information, visit www.dustyslay.com, or call O Town Ice Cream, (334) 737-5700.
