The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Auburn University will host a Brown Bag Lunch and Learn on July 12 at the Clarion Inn & Suites, located at 1577 S. College St., in Auburn. Scott Girard will present a progam about gardens and grounds of Disney. The title of his presentation is “Gardening with Mickey…a peek behind the curtain.” The program begins at 11:30 a.m., and the public is invited. There is no charge, but attendees should bring their own lunches.
A native Southern Californian and Cal Poly Pomona graduate, Scott Girard spent 34 years with the Walt Disney Company as the director of planning and landscape architecture for theme parks and resorts worldwide. The last four years of his career he was general manager of Disney’s horticulture division in charge of caring for all theme parks, resort hotels, water parks and common areas at the 28,000 acre Walt Disney World Resort complex.
Girard’s presentation will include photos of the beautiful gardens and grounds of Disney and will address many interesting topics. He will explain how Disney theme parks and resorts are able to maintain fresh and perfect-looking landscapes. In addition, Girard will discuss the planning, design, installation and maintenance of some of the best known and best maintained landscapes in the world.
