Floyd R. Pugh

Floyd R. Pugh, 83, of Opelika passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home. We rejoice that he now sings in the heavenly choir of which he longed to be a member. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 12, at Jeffcoat-Trant Funeral Home from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be Thursday, April 13, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Ferrell and Rev. Dr. Mike Pearson officiating. Interment will follow in Garden Hills Cemetery.
Mr. Pugh was born on February 8, 1934 to James and Jessie Mae Pugh in Macon County, AL. He is survived by his wife, Gerry Pugh, of 59 years; two children, Randy (Roxanne) Pugh and Rhee (Steve) Clemmons; five grandchildren, Eric Clemmons, Ryan (Ashley) Pugh, Amy Pugh, Erin Clemmons, and Ashlee (Daniel) Dalton; three siblings Jamie Slay, Charles (Rebecca) Pugh and David (Myra) Pugh; sister-in-law Joanne Pugh and brother-in-law Bennie Bass. He was preceded in death by his sister Ethel Bass and brothers Carl Pugh and Gordon Pugh.
Floyd retired after 45 years of service with the same insurance company where he held multiple agent and management positions. He was often recognized for his leadership and accomplishments during his career. He was an avid Auburn football fan and enjoyed attending all home football games. He loved singing gospel music and sang in several different quartet groups over the years. He was a faithful member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as Chairman of the Administrative Board for many years, sang and directed the choir, and organized annual Wesley Barbeques which was a favorite in the community.
