It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Kathleen “Kathy” McKee of Opelika at the age of 76 on Dec. 26, 2020, in her home with her family.  Kathy was born in Atchison, Kansas, on February 12, 1944, and grew up in the nearby town of Everest, Kansas.  She was the youngest of three children to Wesley F. and Mildred I. Simpson.  She was married to William C. “Mac” McKee (Dec. 27, 1963) for 29 years until his death in 1993.  Kathy worked in the bookkeeping and customer service departments of Farmers National Bank and its subsequent acquiring banks for 34 years from 1976 until her retirement in 2010.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Mildred Simpson; her husband, Mac McKee; and her brother, Wesley Dean Simpson.  She is survived by her sister, Frances Kay Stoutenburg of Guelph, Ontario, Canada; two sons, Mike (Ginger) McKee and Pat McKee of Opelika; and one grandson, Naval Petty Officer Third Class William Blake (Emma) McKee of Norfolk, Virginia; many nieces and nephews and their families; and her best friend, Maxine Johnson of Opelika.

Kathy enjoyed sewing and doing alterations for many people in and around the Opelika area throughout the years.  She delighted in her family and was a rock of strength to them.

Her funeral will be a graveside service at Garden Hill Cemetery in Opelika on Dec. 30, at 2 p.m.
