One of Opelika’s most beloved chicken restaurants announced a big change to its menu recently.

Jim Bob’s Chicken Fingers, located in Tiger Town, added breakfast to its menu. Served from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Saturday, the added hours of operation mean Opelika residents can get Jim Bob’s practically all day.

“I always had the idea of maybe doing breakfast because I feel like in Tiger Town, with the exception of drive-thru Chick-Fil-A and McDonald’s, there’s really not a big home-cooked type breakfast out here,” said Owner Steven Ferrell.

Jim Bob’s is offering a variety of different foods with its new menu. Along with bacon, doughbillies and hash browns, the restaurant loves to fry many things for breakfast, Ferrell said. There are five different deep-fried biscuits: the plain butter biscuit, the bacon biscuit, the egg and cheese biscuit, sausage biscuit and the signature fried biscuit.

“What our signature biscuit is, is the fried biscuit,” Ferrell said. “Deep-fried whole biscuit, comes out perfectly hot and crunchy, not greasy. We put our chicken fingers on it with sweet honey mustard … It’s a product that not everyone has. I label it with the slogan ‘the best biscuit you’ll ever have’ because I really think it is. I don’t know why everyone is not frying biscuits.’”

They also have an item that they call the Cinnabob. It is a fried cinnamon roll with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

“It’s all unique,” Ferrell said. “It’s just something not everybody has, and it’s really good.”

The breakfast menu has grown and become popular so quickly that Ferrell said they are about to expand the menu even more to a full breakfast menu.

“Within the next week or so, we will have a full breakfast where you can get a plate inside and sit down if you want with eggs, grits, bacon and all that good stuff,” he said. “We started off with the fried biscuits and the fried cinnamon rolls, and it’s growing into a full service and breakfast.”

Jim Bob’s Chicken Fingers wanted to bring home-cooked meals to Tiger Town, and the breakfast menu is just another way they are doing so. The restaurant offers many items that you can’t get anywhere else here.

“My idea out here was to bring a breakfast that is like a home-cooked breakfast,” Ferrell said. “For Opelika to come, sit down and enjoy. It’s going to be like you cooked it at home, but it’s here.”
