David E. Payne of Opelika, Alabama, was born to the late James Ocie and Mary Johnson Payne on Jan. 28, 1951, and passed away at East Alabama Medical Center on Aug. 31, 2021. He was 70 years old.

He worked for over 40 years with AMCO where he became a foreman and was well-known in the community for his plumbing business. He was a member of Union Christian Church in Little Texas, Alabama. He was a devoted husband, father, Pawpaw, brother and Alabama fan.

David is survived by his wife of 31 years, Wanda J. Payne; children, Kecia Lewis, Mandy Blankenship, Brittney Payne (Travis), Courtney Payne; eight grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Tally, Barbara McDonald; brothers, Ronnie Payne (Meri), Mark Payne (Wanda); special family friend, Margaret Smith as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Visitation was held Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

The graveside service was held at Little Texas Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021, at 3 p.m. with Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating.
