Baerbel “Barbara” Dollar, 82, a cherished member of the Opelika-Auburn community, passed peacefully, surrounded by her friends and family, Thursday morning, Aug. 5 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband MSGT Charles ‘Charlie’ Dollar, married 56 years, siblings, Ursula Money, Karen Green,  and her daughter Linda Eastep. She is survived by her son, Charles (Chip) Dollar and his children, Michael and Steven Dollar, her grandchildren, Grant (Max) Oberg, Tye (Tiffany) Edwards, Ally (Luke) Malone and her great grandchildren Carter and Harper Dee Edwards.

A well-traveled,  well-read, lover of animals, Barbara was on trend at all times. Beautiful inside and out, Barbara gave back to her community through her volunteering with the Food Bank of East Alabama where she served others with a beautiful smile and an open heart. Immigrating at the age of 19 from Germany and becoming an American citizen, Barbara embraced her new life. Charlie and Barbara met and married, and together created a life. After the military lifestyle took them to Illinois, Liberia and North Carolina. Charlie, Barbara, Linda, and Chip finally found their forever home in Alabama. Settling down in Opelika, Barbara took pride in her beautiful home, staying fit with her friends at the Opelika Sportsplex and escaping down to the gulf to relax on the beach. Her traditions will live on through her family where every Christmas Eve will be celebrated through a German ‘Poor Man’s’ Dinner, and every summer spent on the porch playing a game of dice. Leaving behind a legacy of a life well lived, her family takes comfort knowing that she is reunited with her daughter Linda, her husband Charlie and her best friend and sister, ‘Ushi’. The impact she made in the lives of family and friends will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Food Bank of East Alabama, where Barbara so loved to spend her spare time.
