With 16 of the area’s best restaurants and two wineries, the fifth annual Taste of the Town will provide an exciting evening of great food April 25, from 6-8 p.m. at the Museum of East Alabama in downtown Opelika. A silent auction will also be held, featuring a variety of items and packages.
Restaurants participating in this year’s event include Cafe 123, Acre, Irish Bred Pub, Outback, Sweet Malisa’s, Long Horn Steak House, Zazu, Zoe’s, Martha Hick’s Southern Hospitality Catering, Cup and Saucer, Ursula’s, La Cantina, Niffer’s, O Town Ice Cream, Amsterdam Cafe and Jefferson’s.
Warm Springs and Hodges Wineries will provide tastings, while Toomer’s Lemonade, coffee, sodas and bottled water will also be served.
Sponsors for the fundraiser to benefit the museum are Auburn Bank, S&S Termite, Opelika Observer, Henry J. Stern Family Foundation, EAMC, Winston Smith T and Alligare.
Proceeds from the fundraiser provide for repairs and upkeep of the museum. Every year, visitors from around the globe visit the museum to view displays and artifacts of the history of East Alabama.
Located at the site of the old Clement Hotel on 9th Street, the Museum of East Alabama officially opened Aug. 10, 1989. Volunteers kept the museum operating until funds were available to hire a director. Glenn Buxton is the current director.
Renovation of the main building and construction of the East Alabama at Work exhibits were completed a few years ago. The museum displays more than 5,000 artifacts from the area’s past.
Enjoy an evening of wonderful food while helping to preserve the museum and its artifacts, as they continue to provide a living history of the area’s past.
Tickets are $25, and are available at the museum or online at eastalabama.org. Membership in the museum is also available at various levels, beginning with $25 for families.
