EAST ALABAMA — Six women are needed for roles in the Auburn Area Community Theatre’s upcoming production of Steel Magnolias.
Auditions will be held Feb. 24 and 25 for the roles of:
Shelby, generous fun-loving and headstrong
Annelle, innocent, nervous and awkward
M’Lynn, Sheby’s practical and protective mother
Truvy, Sassy, funny and loving
Clairee, wise and sarcastic
Ouiser, a cranky but loyal friend
If you are 18-30 years old, please sign up to read for for Annelle and Shelby. You will have the opportunity to read for both roles. If you are 31-50, please sign up to read for Truvy and M’Lynn. If you are 50 and up, please sign up for Ouiser and Clairee.
You will read from scripts provided and have the opportunity to read both roles in your age range. Monologues (30-60 seconds long) are optional but are a great way to showcase your ability. No previous acting experience is necessary, and actresses ag-es 18 and up of any race, ethnicity or ability are welcome to audition.
Auditions will be held by appointment only from 6 to 8 p.m. on Jan. 24 at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center located at 222 East Drake Ave. in Auburn. Several actresses will read together during 20-minute sessions. A 30-60 second monologue may be performed as well, but that is not required.

Call back auditions (by invitation only) will be held 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 27. Rehears-als are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from March 4 to May 1, with technical and dress rehearsals set for May 4-8. Performances will be May 9-11 and May 15-18. Please bring your calendar to discuss any scheduling conflicts.

Combining light-hearted comedy and quirky characters with a serious, heart-rending storyline, Steel Magnolias has appealed to audiences both on-stage and in its popular 1989 film adaptation.
