ADA TRANSITION PLAN PUBLIC OUTREACH AND PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
Please take notice that the City of Opelika, Alabama is in the process of updating its current ADA (Americans with Disabilities) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan. This update was led by City staff, City department heads, and field staff assigned to assist with the project.
Staff was responsible for assessing, documenting, collecting, and organizing the self-evaluation from facility accessibility assessments, identifying existing deficiencies, creating a comprehensive barrier database and planning corrective actions. The City also self-evaluated its policies, programs and procedures to determine current levels of service and the extent to which its policies and programs created barriers to accessibility for persons with disabilities.
Title II of the ADA prohibits local governments from discriminating against people with disabilities by excluding participation or denying benefits of programs, services or activities to persons with disabilities. The Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan are part of the City of Opelika’s overall efforts to address accessibility throughout the City of Opelika.
COMMENTS AND PLAN RECOMMENDATIONS
The City of Opelika invites the public to become involved in this process through written comments. Those interested persons, including individuals with disabilities or organizations representing individuals with disabilities, are requested to participate in the development of the ADA Transition Plan. Please submit comments or specific recommendations for modification to City facilities, programs, services and activities to Lisa McLeod, the City’s ADA Coordinator.

Coordinator will respond to any complaint or request. The public comment period will be held from April 12, 2018 to April 26, 2018.
PUBLIC MEETING
The City of Opelika will host a public meeting and public hearing to receive input regarding the ADA Transition Plan. This meeting is scheduled for April 26, 2018, at 2:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers of City Hall located at 204 South 7 th Street, Opelika, Alabama.
