During the months of February, March, April and May the OHS athletic calendar is full. There are only a few days open, excluding Sundays.
Opelika participated in the Auburn Invitational at the Softball Complex in Auburn. The Lady Bulldogs finished 2-2 with wins over Eufaula and Grissom. Beauregard and Alabama Christian Academy were the losses.
OHS beat Russell County 7-2 in the area opener Monday night at West Ridge Park. Payton Powers earned the win in the circle, pitching a complete game. She struck out six, allowed two hits and one earned run.
Tamia O’Neal and Katie Young led Opelika at the plate. O’Neal went two for three at the plate with a double, a single and two runs scored.
Young was two for two plus a sacrifice. Kelsey Lee added a single.
Opelika traveled to Fairfax last night to play the Valley Rams. The game was not complete at press time.
They host Woodland on March 16 and Valley on March 17.
Both girls and boys tennis teams defeated Benjamin Russell this week.
The boys dominated the Wildcats, 9-0. Kevin Lazenby, Andrew Bizilia, Scot Carpenter, Conner Pruitt, Henry Smith T and Andrew Goss won singles matches. Lazenby/Bizilia, Carpenter/Pruitt and Smith T/ Jack Slay all won doubles matches.
The OHS girls beat the Wildcats, 7-2, to complete the sweep.
Singles winners included Sam Herring, Emma Grace Skullen, Emme Levins, Sara Hollis Smith T, Taylor Watson and Mary Bentley Barfield.
Doubles winners included Herring/Scullen, Smith T/ Watson and Levins/Martilynn Grouby.
The OHS girls soccer team lost 0-2 to LAMP of Montgomery Tuesday afternoon. The girls played hard and put together a good game but could not get the ball in the net.
Kayla Kaitlyn, and Meagan New each took several unsuccessful shots on goal. Clark Lawrence played great defense for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Opelika boys team best LAMP 1-0. Auturo Ramos scored the lone goal with the assist going to Alex Phputhonesy.
Both teams hosted BRHS last night but results were not available at press time.
The two teams host Brookstone tomorrow at 7 p.m.
The Opelika Bulldog baseball team swept Prattville in a double header, 11-1 and 9-6. The Dawgs (8-5) used great pitching and timely hitting to win the two games.
Mitch Myers earned the win, pitching five innings, striking out 12, allowing one hit and one unearned run. Myers also added three hits including two doubles to help his cause.
Kent Bugg added two hits and an RBI; JD Worth, Tyler Robertson, Jarred Bartlett, Cullen Senn and Jesse Baker all added single hits.
The Dawgs played AHS last night. The score was not available at press time.
The Opelika Dixie Boys Baseball League allows 15-year-olds to play in the league and all-stars, if picked. Dixie Boys is for ages 13, 14 and 15-year-olds.
Registration is ongoing at the Opelika Sportsplex. Cost is $45 which includes jersey and cap. Each player will be placed on a team.
