CONTRIBUTED TO THE OBSERVER
OPELIKA — The Barbara H. Patton Southside Center for the Arts invites the public to view the Arts Association of East Alabama’s Collection of Historic Music and Art exhibition generously donated by Jim Sikes.
Sikes spent 20 years serving as the East Alabama Chorale director and conductor, as well as performing with multiple choirs such as the Auburn University Concert Choir, Montgomery Civic Chorale and Alabama Symphony Orchestra. Sikes was instrumental in the redevelopment of the Southside Center for the Arts. To celebrate his efforts, the Southside Center and the Arts Association of East Alabama have 22 music-related artworks, including original sheet music, hand-painted artworks, etched prints and antique pianos from the 1800s, donated by Jim Sikes exhibited in the foyer of the Southside Center for the Arts. The collection will be on view until Aug. 31 and can be accessed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
