AUBURN-OPELIKA —The Ninth Annual Mardi Gras Parade hosted by Krewe de Tigris returns to Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 14, bringing more than 40 floats, dancers and vehicle groups to downtown.
This year’s parade features a King and Queen of Hearts theme in celebration of Valentine’s Day, with many floats incorporating hearts and royalty into their designs. Parade-goers can expect classic Mardi Gras throws and a lively, family-friendly atmosphere along the route.
“Since it falls on Valentine’s Day, many floats will feature hearts and royalty,” said Beth Witten, a founding member of Krewe de Tigris. “Parade-goers can expect to catch beads, moon pies and more. It is a family-friendly parade open to everyone.”
Floats will line up on the Thach Concourse before making their way through downtown Auburn, where spectators can gather along the route to enjoy the celebration.
Before the parade, the Auburn Downtown Merchants Association will host the seventh annual Krewe Krawl. Participants with wristbands can visit participating downtown businesses to enjoy exclusive specials, discounts and entertainment from 1 to 3 p.m.
Local shops and restaurants will be open throughout the day, encouraging attendees to dine, shop and continue the Mardi Gras festivities downtown.
