OPELIKA — At the Oct. 28 Opelika School Board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Davis awarded Board Member Charles (Chuck) Beams Jr., with a plaque and thanked him for his time with the school board as he goes to serve on the Opelika City Council.
“Nine years — that’s a long time for a board member, and you know we’re very appreciative of what you’ve done for us, but we do have a little recognition for you from Opelika City Schools — this is for your dedication,” he said.
Beams said he was proud of his time on the Opelika School Board and his desire to continue to support Opelika City Schools in his new position on the City Council.
“[This was] probably one of the best things I’ve done in my professional career — serving on this board,” he said. “I really just think back through all the things that we have been through — some really hard things and some really awesome things. It’s been a special time, and I appreciate you guys, and [I’m] really, really proud of where we are as a system.”
