LAFAYETTE — LaFayette Main Street Executive Director Deanna Hand delivered a briefing on upcoming events that her organization will be bringing to the downtown in the coming months during Monday night’s LaFayette City Council meeting.
Hand said there will be a food truck festival on Aug. 8, which will include an introduction of local football teams to kick off the new season. Hand went on to announce a new Christmas in July event.
“As you all know it is a difficult time of year for our local businesses,” she said. “With the summer months a lot of people take vacations. A lot of people are cutting down on spending. We want to hold this Christmas in July for our local business and our residents to come. We are going to be giving away free downtown dollars to really encourage shopping and for people to get out and support local. That is going to be July 25. It is a Friday and it will be all day.”
Trunk or Treat is scheduled for Oct. 30 and a downtown music crawl is place for Oct. 25.
Also during the meeting, a proclamation for the Chambers County Day of Prayer was read. Assistant Clerk Diane Perry addressed the council.
“This is 24 years for the Day of Prayer for Chambers County,” she said. “God started this prayer back in 2001 right before 9-11 hit. When 9-11 hit, Chambers County was already praying for the nation, for our county, everything. When 9-11 hit, definitely everybody started praying. I just want to thank the mayor and the council for all these 24 years for your support and praying for Chambers County. This year’s theme is “We are United Together in Faith.”
Mayor Kenneth Vines read the proclamation and the motion was approved to proclaim Aug. 1, 2025, as the Day of Prayer for Chambers County.
