Woman arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals

Auburn – On Jan. 14, 2025, Auburn Police arrested Taylor Michelle Colbert, age 18, from Auburn, Alabama, on a felony warrant charging her with aggravated cruelty to animals.

The arrest stems from officers responding to an animal cruelty complaint near the 1100 block of Opelika Road on Jan. 5, 2025. Police were notified of a deceased household animal by a complainant. Auburn Animal Control responded, and an investigation was initiated by Auburn Police and Animal Control.

Taylor Michelle Colbert was developed as a suspect. During the investigation, evidence indicated that the death of the animal occurred under conditions that were in violation of Alabama state law 13A-11-14.1 regarding aggravated cruelty to animals.

An arrest warrant was obtained, and on Jan. 14, Colbert turned herself in to Auburn Police. She was arrested in obedience to the warrant, transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $5,000 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
