Harvest Evangelism is seeking to provide more than 2,000 area residents with a hot meal this Thursday through its annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.
Beginning at 8 a.m.
Thanksgiving morning, Young said volunteers will come to a tent set up behind Harvest Thrift Super Center to help package, transport and serve meals.
Young said dozens of volunteers will distribute meals to the needy, elderly shut-ins, families and others in the Opelika-Auburn area who will not have access to a home-cooked meal that day.
“The main thing we’re trying to do is provide people with a meal on Thanksgiving Day … many people do not realize how many people go hungry that day. Through His Place (a Harvest Evangelism ministry) we feed 50-100 people a day that are homeless and we personally deliver up to 40-50 meals every day,” Young said. “Knowing that I will have helped give these people something like a hot meal on Thanksgiving gives me a lot of joy.”
