Things were quiet as far as OHS athletics last week due to the Thanksgiving break. The winter sports teams, basketball, wrestling and competition cheerleading, all practiced but were able to take a few days off to spend quality time with family.
The shock from Coach John Wadsworth’s resignation has settled down and the varsity boys basketball team won their first game under interim Coach Brian Moore, defeating Benjamin Russell at the Sports Arena, 70-41. T.J.Presley scored 13, Malcolm Buggs, 11 and Aldrecous Wilson added nine points. This was a huge win because it was the first game of the season as well as the first game under a new coach and it gave the young players confidence. The win was the first ever for interim coach Brian Moore. Moore stepped up at a tough time and accepted the job. He was Wadsworth’s assistant for the past four years.
The varsity girls (4-1) lost their first game of the season to Jeff Davis Monday night. The visiting Vols were hot and jumped out to a big lead in the first half. The Lady Bulldogs charged back in the second half to make a game out of it but never could take the lead.
