OPELIKA ROTARY CLUB

As Dixie Broadwater, past president of the Opelika Rotary Club, was nearing the end of her term (2020-21) she wanted to do something special on behalf of her fellow rotarians for the new Opelika Public Library. Something that would have a lasting impact on young children whenever they visited the new library.

In May 2021 with the unanimous consent of the board of directors, the Opelika Rotary Club made a gift to the new Opelika Public Library in the amount of $6,000 for the creation of the Opelika Rotary StoryWalk.

Some of the members of the Opelika Rotary Club who attended the Dedication on Nov. 16, 2021.

The mission of Rotary is to provide service to others, promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill and peace through the fellowship of business, professional and community leaders.

The StoryWalk Project was originally created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library. StoryWalk is a registered service mark owned by Ferguson.

The new StoryWalk at Opelika Library follows a nature trail and has 21 different posts with a podium-style top to display pages of the story along the way.  The new Rotary StoryWalk was dedicated on Nov. 16, 2021.
