April 1 to 3 will mark the return of Praise 88.7 FM’s biannual “Praise-a-thon,” a radio event that generates crucial funding for the radio station to continue its mission of “spreading the good news of Jesus Christ through (their programming).”
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the normal format of bringing on local celebrities and dignitaries has been changed. According to Praise 88.7 staff member Casey Moore, the focus of this Praise-a-thon will be to focus on “being here for everyone that tunes in and doing life – and all it brings at this time – together!”
As a nonprofit organization, 88.7 relies heavily on donations from this event, Moore said. The other Praise-a-thon normally takes place in October.
Praise 88.7 was founded by Jimmy Jarrell and his wife Pat in 2008. Originally based in Dadeville, it has operated in Waverly, Auburn and at its present location in Opelika for the last few years.
Joe May has been with the radio station for years, and has served as its director since Jarrell’s passing in 2013.
In addition to the traditional radio airwaves, Moore explained that listeners can tune into the station via their phones, smart televisions and website, www.praise887.com.
The number to call during the event will be 334-705-8004. Follow the radio station’s social media pages or visit their website for more information and updates. The radio station is located at 2101 Executive Park Drive.
