OPELIKA — Members of Trinity Church’s AWANA program shared encouragement and fellowship with Community-Wide Widows’ Hope during a meeting held Thursday, Feb. 26, at Trinity Fellowship Hall.

The theme, “Here Comes a Hug,” reflects the group’s mission of bringing comfort and connection to women who have lost their husbands. Widows gather regularly to support one another as they navigate widowhood with faith and positivity.

AWANA — which stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed — is a Wednesday evening ministry led by Mrs. Betsy Hall Ledoux. She guides young girls in applying Bible scripture through outreach that offers spiritual, physical, mental and emotional encouragement to others in need.

Ledoux and her class presented the program for Widows’ Hope. The girls have been praying for each woman in the group for several months. They created handmade love cards and assembled “Joshua Jars” filled with scripture verses as gifts of encouragement.

Under the guidance of their teachers, the girls also shared a video message reminding the widows that they are not alone and that God has a plan for their lives. The message included Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

The next Community-Wide Widows’ Hope meeting will be held Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Church Fellowship Hall. Dennis and Terri Bisanz will present a program titled “Feeding God’s Children.”

Community-Wide Widows’ Hope serves as a network of prayer, fellowship and support for women who have experienced the loss of a spouse. For more information, contact Beth Pinyerd at (251) 895-3228.
