AUBURN — Auburn United Methodist Church will host a community conversation titled “Good News Neighbors Presents: In Conversation with Brian Goldstone” on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. in the church’s sanctuary.
The event will feature an interview and discussion with Brian Goldstone, author of “There Is No Place for Us: Working and Homeless in America,” a nationally acclaimed book examining the growing number of working families across the country who remain unhoused despite steady employment.
In addition to the conversation with Goldstone, the event will highlight Auburn UMC’s Good News Rapid Re-Housing ministry, a local initiative focused on creating housing pathways for families experiencing homelessness in Auburn, Opelika and throughout Lee County. Launched in October 2025, the ministry helps families move quickly from homelessness into stable housing while providing short-term support to promote long-term stability.
The Good News Rapid Re-Housing ministry is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Continuum of Care program. In its first three months, the ministry has re-housed nine families, reaching nearly 50% of its 12-month housing goal.
The Jan. 18 event is open to the public and is intended to foster thoughtful dialogue about housing affordability, homelessness among working families and the role local communities can play in developing effective and compassionate responses. Attendees will also learn practical ways to connect with and support families experiencing homelessness in Lee County.
Community members, local leaders and stakeholders interested in housing stability and economic security are encouraged to attend.
