FIVE POINTS — Chambers County resident and Mayor of Five Points Jeff Monroe announced his candidacy this past week for the Republican nomination in the 2026 GOP primary election for the Alabama House of Representatives in District 37.
Rep. Bob Fincher currently holds that office and has announced that he will not be seeking reelection at the end of his current term. District 37 includes all of Randolph County, a portion of Chambers County, a section of Opelika as well as an area of unincorporated Lee County.
In a press release announcing his candidacy, Monroe expressed his vision for seeking public office.
“I am proud and excited to announce my candidacy for the Republican nomination for District 37,” the release reads. “My entire career has been spent serving the public. During my 45 years as a firefighter and paramedic faithfully serving people throughout rural and urban communities in Alabama, I have had a front row seat to the issues that Alabamians face. Whether serving a small, rural community or a large urban center, my life’s experiences have taught me that all people share the same hopes — to make their lives better.”
Monroe is an active member of the Chambers County Republican Club and has catered home cooked meals for the attendees on multiple occasions. Residing in Chambers County since 2001, Monroe addressed the CCRC at their meeting this past week during which time he shared what he said he believes to be the three core pillars of enhancing the quality of life in Alabama.

  • Public safety to make people feel safe in their community.
  • Education to prepare children for future success.
  • Economic development to have job opportunities that will enable citizens to support their families.
Having retired in 2015, during his long career as a first responder Monroe’s resume includes holding the position of Lanett Fire Department Chief. Grant writing to provide local fire departments with essential funding for critical equipment and vehicles is one focus that Monroe has utilized his experience for. Beekeeping is a hobby that Monroe has dedicated countless hours to, and along with his wife, Cindy Tubbs Monroe, is the parent of Carlie Tubbs Price and Emile Monroe Milam. Monroe is also grandfather to Emma, Leigha, Cooper, Marli, Sophie, Sarah, Jace and John. He also attends Church of the Highlands in Opelika.
Campaign kick off events for Monroe’s candidacy will be scheduled in the next few months to be held in Chambers County as well as Randolph and Lee counties.
