BIRMINGHAM—Dakarai Larriett, a successful entrepreneur and community activist, has officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate in 2026.

As the son of a U.S. Army veteran and a teacher, Dakarai said he is passionate about creating a better Alabama for all its citizens.

“America needs leaders who prioritize service over self and country over party,” he said. “We can no longer afford division and political chaos — it’s time we focus on real solutions that benefit everyday Americans. While the current administration seeks to dismantle essential government services, I am committed to fostering balance and civility.”

An honors graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Larriett earned a full scholarship to the University of Alabama, where he graduated magna cum laude with a degree in business and economics. His passion for public service was ignited during a transformative junior year as an exchange student at Howard University. His internship at US Airways in cargo e-commerce and supply chain management paved the way for his career as a corporate leader and business owner.

“Hard work must be rewarded, and Alabama should be a place where businesses thrive and workers get a fair chance,” Larriett said. “This means cutting red tape for small businesses, investing in infrastructure and attracting high-paying jobs. Let’s build an economy that works for everyone.”

In addition to his business endeavors, Larriett volunteers with the United Way, Meals on Wheels and the Humane Society. He also leads a board of more than 60 families and businesses in the Mercantile on Morris, a mixed-use development in Birmingham.

“Home is where the heart is,” he emphasized. “I cherish our culture, our food, our quality of life and most importantly, our people. This deep appreciation for my home state drives my motivation to run for Senate. I believe that by entering public office, I can advocate for policies that enhance the lives of Alabamians, preserve our rich heritage and ensure future generations have the same sense of belonging and opportunity that I cherish. My campaign is rooted in a vision of a thriving Alabama, where every citizen has the chance to succeed and feel proud of their home.”
