NOTICE OF FUNDING AVAILABILITY
FIVE DAY PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOR
In response to the Coronavirus Pandemic (COVID-19) the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) has notified the City of Opelika that it will receive an allocation of $159,883 to be used to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19. This allocation was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), Public Law 116-136, which was signed by President Trump on March 27, 2020, to respond to the growing effects of this historic public health crisis.
The City of Opelika Planning Department, Community Development Office, hereby request public comment from citizens within the community, private and profit enterprises, and not-for-profit organizations for assistance in determining the distribution of the 2020 CARES funding.
The total of $159,883 will be available for eligible activities meeting the national objecting to prevent and respond to the spread of COVID-19.
The 5-day public comment period will begin on Monday, April 20, 2020 and conclude on Friday, April 24, 2020 at 4 pm. Public comments can be emailed to Lisa Thrift, CDBG Administrator or lthrift@opelika-al.gov or can be mailed to the City of Opelika, Community Development Administrator, 700 Fox Trail, Opelika, AL 36801.
If you would like to make a public comment by phone, please call (334) 705-5155 between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. All public comments will be taken into consideration prior to the determining the use of these funds.
