Commission proclaims September Gynecological Cancer Awareness month

In their regular meeting Aug. 28, the Lee County Commission granted an easement to a proposed residential development on Lee Road 312 off Summerville Road in extreme southeastern Lee County, near Lake Oliver. The easement allows five of the seven-lot development to share an access road preventing all five lots from having to access LR 312 on a blind curve.
Both plats and deeds, however, must contain notification that maintenance of the 60-foot wide access road will be the responsibility of the property owners and not Lee County.
Commissioners also approved acceptance of a low bid of $273,335 for re-roofing wings E and F of the T.K. Davis Justice Center Jail. Low bidder was Standard Roofing of Montgomery, Inc., which has previously done satisfactory work for the county. This roof replacement will complete the re-roofing of the entire jail facility. County Administrator Roger Rendleman observed that previous re-roofing phases have each resulted in significant utility cost savings and the current phase should also.
Commissioners also approved $255,000 to purchase software from Nitorco, Inc., for use in mapping, appraisal and assessment of real property. Serious problems had arisen in servicing the old software used for the previous 18 years.
In other action, the commission:
– Named Chris Dunlap of Auburn to the Lee County Industrial Development Authority, completing the Authority’s membership and allowing it to begin functioning and,
– At the request of Sue Galik, and sister of the late Nan Galik who organized Teal Magnolias in the area and who succumbed to gynecological cancer two months ago, proclaimed September 2017 as Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month and encourages all Lee County residents to raise awareness of gynecological cancers.
