Mayor, council recognize city employees

The Opelika City Council and Mayor Gary Fuller recognized a number of city employees at its regular meeting last Tuesday.
The following employees were recognized for their respective years of service: Shane Healey-20 years (Opelika Police Department); Bruce Brown-25 years (Opelika Police Department); Laura Leigh Chesser-5 years (Opelika Parks and Recreation); Tommie Agee-20 years (Opelika Parks and Recreation); Kent Hollingsworth-15 years (Inspection Department); David Davis-10 years (Opelika Fire Department); Heather Middleton-High-10 years (Human Resources); Rachel Dennis-10 years (Opelika Planning Department); Jonathan Hill-5 years (Information Technology.)
In other business, the council also:
-awarded bids for the re-roofing of the Lewis Cooper, Jr. Memorial Library and Covington Recreation Center.
-approved a request by Opelika Main Street for a temporary street closure.
-approved a request by Keep Opelika Beautiful for a one-way road for Garden in the Park.
-approved a request for a 5K run/walk called “I Run Opelika” on Aug. 26.
-approved a request by Momma Goldberg’s Deli for an on-premise beer license.
-approved the purchase of swimming starting blocks for Opelika Parks and Recreation.
-passed a resolution approving the employment contract between the city and Joey Motley.
-awarded a special appropriation to Keep Opelika Beautiful for Garden in the Park.
-reappointed Kevin Royal to the Opelika City School Board of Education with a term expiring April 2022.
-appointed Chuck Beams to the Opelika City School Board of Education with a term expiring April 2019.
