Members of the city council, Mayor Gary Fuller and other city employees took a dousing for Lou Gehrig’s disease in the awareness move that’s been sweeping the nation – the ALS ice bucket challenge. Opelika Power Services headed up the group challenge after realizing several city employees and departments had been called out.
“We decided we were going to do a Team Opelika group challenge,” said OPS’ June Owens. “We had so much ice in there, I was not really concentrating on how cold it was because the ice was coming out full force.”
Backhoes were the “bucket” of choice for the city. “We wanted to make sure we got water on everybody,” Owens said.
Opelika challenged the city of Auburn.
