The Opelika varsity boys’ and girls’ basketball teams hosted the Lanett Panthers this week. The girls took the floor first and ran away with a 61-32 victory. The boys’ game was much closer. After both teams traded free throws near the end of regulation, Opelika led by one point with 1.6 seconds remaining. The Panthers ensuing half court shot miraculously went in and Lanett escaped with a 64-62 buzzer-beating win. Note: Clemson head football coach Dabo Sweeny was in attendance to presumably watch Caden Story of Lanett, a 4-star football recruit at defensive end who reopened his recruitment in January after committing to Auburn last year.
