OPELIKA — Southern Union State Community College is now enrolling students for the Fall semester in its Therapeutic Massage Program. The program prepares individuals for careers as Licensed Massage Therapists (LMTs) within the growing health and wellness industry.
Therapeutic massage is an important part of today’s healthcare system, supporting pain management, rehabilitation, stress reduction and overall wellness. Massage therapists often work alongside other healthcare professionals as part of integrated care teams.
Southern Union’s Therapeutic Massage Program combines classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, clinical experience and community outreach to ensure graduates are prepared to enter the workforce. Students study anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and therapeutic techniques while gaining supervised clinical experience.
Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to pursue professional licensure through the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) and/or a state board of massage therapy.
The program provides a pathway into a variety of healthcare and wellness settings, including medical clinics, chiropractic offices, physical therapy practices, athletic programs, rehabilitation centers, spas and private practice. The field continues to expand as demand increases for non-invasive, patient-focused care.
The Therapeutic Massage Program is a daytime program completed over three semesters, with classes held at Southern Union’s downtown Opelika campus. A separate application is required for admission. Students are currently being accepted for the Fall semester.
