OPELIKA — At the Jan. 27 Opelika School Board meeting, the board recognized the Opelika High School Varsity Football Team for finishing the 2025 season as the 7A state runner-up, as well as the 2025-26 Teachers of the Year.
“The members of the Opelika City Schools Board of Education recognize the Opelika High School coaches, players and administrators, for the honor and pride they brought to themselves, their families, Opelika High School and our community, and we express our sincere congratulations for your outstanding 2025 season,” said Superintendent Dr. Kevin Davis.
The Opelika School Board its Teachers of the Year:

  • Carver Primary School Teacher of the Year — Rhiannon Barron
    • Jeter Primary School Teacher of the Year — Katie Amos
    • Morris Avenue Intermediate School Teacher of the Year — Cole Watkins
    • Northside Intermediate School Teacher of the Year — Lorri Dees
    • West Forest Intermediate School Teacher of the Year — Jada Todd
    • Fox Run School Teacher of the Year — Niki Middleton
    • Opelika High School Teacher of the Year — Holly Christopher
    • Opelika City Schools Elementary Teacher of the Year — Cecily Jacob of Southview Primary School
    • Opelika City Schools Secondary Teacher of the Year — Bre-A’nna Comer of Opelika Middle School
    “This is a great time — we had a lot of good applicants for our Teachers of the Year across all of our schools,” Davis said.
    Davis also honored the Opelika School Board members for School Board Appreciation Month.
    “Last but not least, it is School Board Appreciation Month,” Davis said. “In front of you have some mugs with some treats in them, these are our Bulldog mugs. We appreciate all y’all do.”

• The board voted to approve the minutes for the meeting.
• The board approved the personnel recommendations.
• The board voted to approve the 2026-2027 School Calendar.
• The board approved an out-of-state field trip.
• The board voted to approve the state per-mile travel reimbursement rate.
• The board approved a motion to approve the Project Agreement with the city of Opelika.
• The board voted to table a motion to approve Scout Program Management for allotted projects until the contract is reviewed by board members.
