AUBURN — There’s a new face in Auburn’s South College Street restaurant community — an American Deli recently opened, aiming to serve the community with freshly made food.
“At American Deli, we offer different kinds of food, so we have so many options — wings, rice, burgers and all the sandwiches,” said General Manager Amy Hu. “Usually, a fast food restaurant doesn’t have many options, but we are a restaurant with a lot of options.”
The menu includes salads, ham and turkey sub sandwiches, gyros, Philly cheese sandwiches, burgers, chicken tenders, Reuben sandwiches, traditional and boneless chicken wings, fried rice dishes, shrimp and fish platters, French fries, onion rings and nine different dipping sauces made fresh in-house daily.
Hu said American Deli is “a fast food restaurant for families.”
“We try to offer fresh food,” she said. “A lot of burger places cook burgers, but not fresh — we cook everything fresh, like rice, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks and more. We try to get fresh food at reasonable prices for customers.”
Hu said she has already noticed recurring customers who are enjoying American Deli.
“We have a lot of people who already love it,” she said. “Earlier, there were three guys sitting here. We only opened four days ago, and I’ve seen them three times already. One of them told me he worked across the street. He told me that I will see him a lot in the future. I’m so happy.”
With Auburn University’s fall semester classes underway and football season starting soon, Hu said she expects a lot of students and tailgaters to enjoy the wing options at American Deli.
“We have a great university here, and we have football season,” she said. “During football season, everybody will love our wings. Our most popular item is number eight — it’s wings.”
American Deli offers its famous lemon pepper wings (wet or dry) along with mild, medium and hot buffalo, garlic parmesan, sweet chili, teriyaki, barbecue and “family gold” flavors.
For call-in orders, Hu said American Deli will ensure food is prepared so that it is hot when customers pick it up or receive it as a delivery.
“We make sure food is always fresh, and we do have a pickup window for customers as well,” she said. “We will have the food ready so they can pick it up at the window and pay at the window. The window is only for pickup and for the DoorDash delivery.”
Hu said she wants to encourage those who have not tried American Deli to visit the new location at 1923 S. College St. The restaurant is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
“Try something new,” she said. “We just have so many options, and it’s great. So, if you have a big family, bring them here, and everybody will have something they can pick. Even if you have a very picky kid, they will find something here.”
