AUBURN — The Auburn High School girls golf team won the AHSAA 2025 7A State Championship on May 13, its third state title in the past seven years.
AHS faced off against UMS-Wright, Grissom and Hewitt-Trussville in the two-day 36-hole stroke play event at Robert Trent Jones’ Oxmoor Valley course in Bessemer. In the previous week’s sub-state qualifier, all four schools’ team scores were within four strokes of each other.
After day one, the Lady Tigers were two strokes out of the lead after shooting 10 over 226. Grissom led with an eight over 224. For individuals, Auburn junior Kate Ha sat in at third before finishing with a 74, senior Esha Gupta shot three over 75 and sophomore Summer Yoo and senior Hannah Halverson brought in a pair of 77s for the Lady Tigers.
After playing on day two, the Lady Tigers brought in a team score of five under 211, topping Grissom by a whopping 19 strokes. Ha and Gupta both carded a pair of 68s, Yoo shot a three over 75 and Halverson shot an 87, securing the win in the case of a tie breaker.
Ha’s 68 landed her as co-champion of the individual state title, her second. She first won as a seventh grader in 2021.
With Auburn’s 211 on day two, rounding out a 36-hole score of 437, these scores set new records for the Alabama High School Athletic Association. Auburn now holds the lowest 18-hole team score and the lowest 36-hole team score recorded in a state championship. AHS previously held the lowest round in 2018, with a 444. Also notably, Auburn High had the best score in all classifications (1A-7A) for Girls golf last week.
