Auburn Opelika Habitat for Humanity partnered with the city of Opelika, the Stone Martin Builders
team and WestFraiser, to break ground on three new homes on Cherry Avenue, Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.
Major Daniel P. Hatcher, U.S. Army, retired and Habitat Board President, greeted everyone as they arrived. Mark
Grantham, Habitat executive director, recognized and thanked the city of Opelika, the Stone Martin
Builders team and West Fraiser, for partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build these three new, affordable, nonprofit
homes.
“It would have taken our Habitat affiliate three years to build these homes, but
thanks to our partnership with the city of Opelika and the Stone Martin Builders Team, three
hardworking families will become homeowners this year,” Grantham said.
City of Opelika leaders believe in affordable housing for hardworking families.
“Over many years Habitat for Humanity has developed a very successful model that helps hard working
families in Opelika to become home owners,” said Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller. “I’m grateful for Habitat’s hard work and pleased that the city could help facilitate these three new homes. The mission of the City of Opelika is to improve the
quality of life of all citizens of Opelika. The City of Opelika consistently supports the mission of Habitat
by helping us build homes, community and hope.”

quality homes with a wide range of product designs and price points. Like Habitat for Humanity one of
our primary missions is to provide home-ownership opportunities across our markets but more
importantly help families create a life-time of fond memories in their new homes”.
The Stone Martin Builders team is a nationally recognized homebuilder with local offices in Opelika. They care deeply
about the community they serve. Stone Martin Builders supports the building of Habitat Homes, Opelika
Ball Fields, Storybook Farm and many other local nonprofit organizations.
The Rev. Dr. Clifford E. Jones asked a blessing on the new home, the families, all those who will make it
possible, and the community. Hatcher thanked and recognized the many community partners that helped Habitat every day. One of those partners is Wells Fargo who donated the land for these three new homes.
