Department of Alabama

District 5

The  VFW Auxiliary organization’s objectives are fraternal, patriotic, historical and educational. It provides services to veterans and their families in various communities throughout each state. One activity District 5 has undertaken, as a community outreach program, is to provide stuffed toys to agencies in the area.

Collectively, the organization has donated over 100 toys that will be used by the Lee County Sheriff’s Department, Auburn and Opelika Police Departments, Auburn and Opelika Fire Departments and the Lee County Volunteer Fire Departments.

When any of these agencies have to respond to calls that involve children, these toys can be provided to these children to ease their situation.

District 5 is composed of auxiliaries from Prattville, Wetumpka, Tallassee, Ft. Mitchell, Smiths Station, Auburn and Opelika. This is one of many services these auxiliaries provide.

Membership is open to husbands/wives, fathers/mothers, sons/daughters, brothers/sisters, widowers/widows, grandparents and grandchildren of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. One local representative is Mrs. Sherry Jiles, who has served as a Department President and currently serves the organization as District 5 president and Hospital/VAVS chairperson.
